Knee osteoarthritis affects people of all ages. The actual cause of osteoarthritis is a decrease over time in the fluid that normally exists in the space between our knee bones, allowing us to move our legs properly. This causes the bones to begin to affect one another during movement.
Give us a call to arrange a consultation with one of our ortho regenerative specialists if you are experiencing persistent knee pain.

Your questions answered
Knee pain has many possible causes such as sprains, strains (overstretched ligaments and muscles), and knee arthritis. Knee pain can also be a result of ligament tears and tendonitis (inflammation of the tendons). This could be traumatic/non traumatic or acute/chronic. With minor injuries like sprains and strains, the pain should slowly dissipate in due course of time. Otherwise it could indicate a more serious underlying injury.
If you're suffering from arthritis or a minor knee injury, you should take care to treat pain flare-ups. Treating the pain when it happens can help manage it. Follow the “RICE” procedure — rest, ice, compression, elevation — to calm your knee pain. If your knee hurts, stop what you're doing and rest.
Water aerobics is an excellent choice of workout for people with knee pain. Biking is great for improving range of motion, flexibility and strength. Yoga is wonderful for flexibility, especially for the areas around the knee that might be tight walking.
Knee pain is a common complaint that affects people of all ages. Knee pain may be the result of an injury, such as a ruptured ligament or torn cartilage. Medical conditions, including arthritis, gout and infections, can also cause knee pain.
